Mahindra Thar OG Variants Explained

Mahindra has launched the facelifted three-door Thar in India with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh (valid till November 30). It is now called the Thar OG and comes in three broad trims - AXT, LXT, and ZXT. Let’s delve into these variants.
Mahindra Thar OG Variants: The Powertrain Split
Like its predecessor, the Thar OG offers three engine options:
- 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel
- 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel
- 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol
The AXT is only available with the smaller diesel engine and rear wheel drive (RWD) configuration. The other two engines can be had on the LXT and ZXT trims, which also offer 4x4 options.
Thar OG AXT
The AXT is the entry point into the OG lineup. Despite being the base variant, it comes with essentials like:
- 18-inch steel wheels
- Roll cage and tubular side footstep
- Halogen headlamps and LED tail lamps
- Vinyl seats
- Height-adjustable driver’s seat
- Fuel lid opening from inside the cabin
It also includes rear USB-C charging ports, rear AC vents, rear de-mister, an armrest for second-row occupants with cup holders, and push-button start. The AXT features electric power steering (EPS) and a brake-locking differential. It is well-equipped in terms of safety, offering dual airbags, ESP with rollover mitigation, and more.
Price: Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom)
Thar OG LXT
This mid-spec variant brings numerous additions on top of the AXT's features:
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Dual-tone bumpers and moulded side step
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel, fabric seats, and cruise control
- C-type USB ports, rear parking sensors, rear wiper washer, power windows
- Tyre direction monitoring system, electrically adjustable ORVMs, colour MID in the analogue instrument cluster
- 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 4x4 hardware and associated technologies (electronic locking differential, terrain modes)
The LXT also includes washable floors with drain plugs for off-road enthusiasts.
Price: Rs 12.99 lakh - Rs 18.00 lakh (ex-showroom)
Thar OG ZXT
The ZXT is the range-topping trim, offering all features of the LXT along with:
- 19-inch alloy wheels and a full-LED lighting package
- LED front fog lamps and cornering function
- Front bumper parking sensors
- Leatherette-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls
- Leatherette upholstery on seats
- Advanced safety and convenience features
