MG Hector Hawk EV Promises 500km-Plus Range: What We Know Before Launch

JSW MG Motor is preparing another large electric SUV, and the upcoming Hector Hawk Plus EV has now been spotted with a 500km-plus range claim on the test vehicle.

The SUV is scheduled to debut on August 26 and will be the first electric model here based on MG’s new ADAPT architecture. It is expected to offer three rows of seats and sit above the regular Hector in size and positioning.
MG has not officially confirmed the production name yet, but Hector Hawk has been widely linked to the model. Expected prices are around Rs 22 lakh to Rs 26 lakh ex-showroom, although final prices will be known only at launch.
It’s Not An Electric Hector
Despite the Hector name being associated with it, this is not simply the existing Hector with a battery underneath. The new SUV is based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold overseas as the MG Eksion. It uses MG’s new ADAPT platform. Its overall length is around 4.7 metres, putting it in the same broad size bracket as the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
Spy images show a boxy body, conventional door handles, rectangular LED headlamps and slim wraparound tail-lights. The cabin is expected to use a dual-screen layout and offer three-row seating.
That packaging is important because seven-seat electric SUVs remain limited in this price range. It could also make the model relevant to families who want three usable rows without moving to a much more expensive electric SUV.
500km-Plus Range Confirmed
The test car carried a 500km-plus range decal, making range one of the few hard clues available before launch.
Reports around the global model point to a battery of around 69 kWh and an expected range close to 530km, but MG has not yet confirmed the India-spec battery capacity or certification figure.
Charging speed will be equally important. A large battery is useful only if the SUV can recover range quickly on highway trips. MG has not disclosed its peak DC charging rate yet.
The company is also expected to offer a plug-in hybrid version later. Overseas specifications suggest that version could combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a battery large enough to provide more than 100km of electric-only driving.
Will Enter A Tough Segment
By the time the Hector Hawk EV reaches customers, it will face serious competition. Mahindra already sells the XEV 9s with large battery options and a claimed MIDC range above 600km. Tata’s Harrier EV offers rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, while the upcoming Safari.EV will add three-row seating to the electric SUV mix.
That means MG cannot rely on the 500km-plus figure alone. Price, charging speed, cabin space and equipment will decide whether the Hector Hawk EV is competitive. MG does have one advantage. The Windsor EV has already given the company useful scale in the electric market, and MG has experience selling both conventional battery ownership and BaaS plans. There is no confirmation yet that BaaS will be offered on the Hector Hawk EV.
For customers, the biggest attraction could be simple: a large, three-row electric SUV at a price below the premium EVs. The August 26th reveal should answer the remaining questions, especially battery size, charging speed, motor output and final price.
