The South Korean automotive giant Kia currently has a decently strong SUV lineup in India. However, there are still some important gaps between its existing models. The company is now working on two new SUVs that are expected to fill these gaps and offer buyers more options at different price points.
Kia’s New Compact SUV – Maruti Fronx Rival
The first upcoming Kia SUV will target the fast-growing compact crossover SUV segment. It is expected to sit between the Syros and Seltos in Kia’s portfolio. The second-generation Seltos has become more upmarket, creating a gap between it and smaller models like the Syros and Sonet. Kia aims to fill this space with a new SUV around 4.2 meters long.
This SUV will be based on Hyundai’s Bayon (internally known as Bc4i), developed for India. It is expected to compete with models like Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, offering similar features while maintaining Kia-specific styling.
Engines and features:
While specific details are pending, the Kia SUV is expected to offer petrol and potentially electrified powertrain options. The Hyundai Bayon will likely feature a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual and IVT gearbox choices, plus a potential CNG version. Features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, large touchscreen infotainment, premium audio, wireless charging, LED lighting, and Level 2 ADAS.
Kia will offer a competitive equipment list, positioning this SUV as a premium alternative to the Fronx. Pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
Kia’s new three-row SUV – Mahindra XUV 7XO rival
The second SUV will address another gap in Kia’s lineup with a larger model based on Hyundai’s Ni1i (4.7 meters long). This SUV will compete with models like Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari, filling the void left by the discontinued Tucson in Hyundai’s portfolio. It will directly rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO, positioning Kia as a strong competitor in the premium three-row SUV segment.
